Properly preparing your car is essential if you intend on trading it in to reduce the cost of a newer model. Here are a few things to do when trading in a vehicle that will help increase its value.
Clean It, All of It
Cleaning the vehicle is a great way to increase the value by a few hundred dollars. Giving it a nice wash and wax should only take a few hours at most. Cleaning the inside could take longer, depending on how much of a packrat you are. Sweep the interior and clean out any lingering trash until it looks as good as new.
If you don’t want to clean it yourself, professional detailers are a great alternative.
Bring the Accessories
If your vehicle came with a second set of keys, any software installation CDs, or an owner’s manual, bring them with you when you trade in the vehicle. Doing so will help increase the value since the dealership won’t have to pay the cost to replace them.
Determine the Value
One of the first things you need to do when preparing to trade in a vehicle is determine its value. Several online resources can provide a rough estimate, but your best bet is to visit the dealership for an appraisal.
Once you have a firm number in hand, you can make a more accurate budget and start determining what vehicles you can afford. We here at Schaumburg Mitsubishi are happy to help with assessing your vehicle’s trade-in value.
